Originally aired way back in 1999, adult-orientated cartoon show Family Guy has been entertaining people with the antics of Peter Griffin and his dysfunctional family ever since. Fans of the show will go GiggtyGiggity over the new pokie game from IGT that has Stewie, Brian, Meg, Chris and Lois joining Peter on the reels, while other characters turn up in the bonus rounds, including Pters’ drinking buddies and the evil chicken.
Those bonus games come in all shapes and sizes and players can trigger free spins, multipliers, pick a prize rounds, wild substitutions and so on. It’s an outstanding pokie for those who enjoy the series, although not one for any players who are easily offended.
Everything is designed in the same style as the TV show, with lots of animated sequences to bring the characters to life. Behind the reels is a picture of the living room in the Griffins’ Quahog home and above them, various characters will appear, each saying something about the game, life, or in the case of Quagmire, their sex lives. It all looks great and won’t disappoint the fans.
A standard 5 reel format, where the symbols are arranged in 3 rows looks perfectly normal, but although there are 30 paylines running left to right across the game, players will need to stake a minimum of 0.50 to get started, mainly due to the number of bonuses that can be triggered.
Lower value symbols start with a bottle of beer that pays 5x, 20x or 100x the line bet when 3, 4 or 5 land across a line, in an unbroken row from the left reel, while a TV set, Stewies’ stuffed bear Rupert and a ray gun are all included.
The family members are more valuable and naturally Peter and Lois head the table, each being worth 25x, 75x or 250x the line bet. Whenever a character becomes part of a winning combination, players will see them in various poses from the show.
While normal gameplay is highly entertaining, it’s the bonuses that make Family Guy stand out even more than the theme does. Finding extra features like these in any pokie would be nice, so the fact that they are added to a game based on a hit series is sure to turn this into one of IGT’s most successful titles.
Some of these are randomly awarded after any spin. Peter can walk on to the reels and fart out a bonus of up to 5000x the line bet, Stewie can add extra wilds to the game after a single spin, and Lois will give each family member a bonus value which will be paid out if they turn up on the next spin.
The Family Guy logo is a wild symbol and as well as acting as others to help complete winning lines, it’s also worth up to 500x the line bet when landing across one on its own.
The World Bonus symbol can land on the middle 3 reels and when at least 3 appear at once, players are taken to a new screen where a globe spins to award a random bonus game. Brian can also randomly add an extra bonus symbol to trigger the round if only 2 appear.
One game is set in The Drunken Clam and all that’s needed is for players to pick beer taps which award prizes while each character passes out in turn. The longer they can stay conscious, the bigger the end rewards will be.
The Chicken Fight round will need little introduction, with players selecting Peter or the chicken to fight for them. As they battle it out over 3 rounds players get to pick money bags and if their character wins the round, they will collect better prizes.
In the Hot Lois game, it’s a romantic night for Peter and his wife, played out over 10 free spins. Whenever the heart appears, extra wilds can be added to the reels, and should Quagmire turn up, he won’t spoil the mood, as further free games will be awarded.
Most pokies have a few downsides to them, but anyone who is a Family Guy fan will find this game to be pretty much perfect. If there’s any issues, it’s to do with the minimum stake being a relatively steep 0.50, but that’s entirely understandable when looking at the number of potential bonus rounds and the high payouts that can be had from them.
More than anything though, this is a hugely fun pokie that does justice to the world of Family Guy and who knows, it may even convert a few people into fans of the show.
