Based around a bank robbery, Bust The Bank is a fun pokie from Microgaming that has several bonus features and a design that lifts it above the normal standard that this type of game usually comes with.

As well as a great design, it comes complete with some pretty good bonus features like side games and free spins, while the 243 Ways to Win payout system can result in lots of winning spins.

Like all Microgaming pokies, it’s fully certified for fairness, and there’s no requirement to download it for PC or mobile play.

Bust Some Moves

Set against a background that represents a safe, Bust the Bank has the regular 5-reel format, with 3 rows of symbols. What’s different from many games is the way that paylines are done away with, and instead when identical symbols stop on adjacent reels, it’s worth a payout as long as the line runs from reel 1 on the left side. The result of this is quite a lot of payouts, but of course this means that they tend to be lower value, but we can’t have it all now, can we?

One point worth noting with these games is that as there are no paylines, there’s no option to bet just a tiny amount to see how it all works, with the minimum stake here being 0.60. This activates all of the reels, so each potential winning combination will result in a prize. The maximum bet per spin is 90.00, so it’s a decent range for anyone but the highest of high rollers and the lowest of rollers as well.

The reels themselves are action-packed, with lots of different images all based around the theme, so there are none of the high card symbols that feature in so many games. This can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your point of view, as the game may look better, but players have to work out which are the lower-paying icons without having the logical card symbols to guide them.

Whether this suits players or not, there’s no arguing about the quality of the symbols, as they are beautifully drawn cartoons with real humour running throughout. Banks, security vans, a crazed guard dog, cops and criminals adorn the screen, while there are a few bonus symbols that trigger extra wins, or break up the spinning of the reels and take players to the side games.

Any time players land a winning combination, some nice animations liven up proceedings, with the dog running around a bit, the policeman shouting at the crooks and that sort of thing.

The wild symbol, which substitutes for others if it helps to complete a winning line is simply the Bust The Bank logo, plus there is a scatter symbol, which is a bomb complete with skull and crossbones painted on it. This pays out a scatter prize that will be multiples of the total bet amount, and then a free spins round will blast off, with the outer reels both wild throughout them and further scatters adding extra spins.

A couple of quick bonus rounds can add bucks to your bankroll, with the Safe symbol raining cash when it lands on reel 1 or 5. Any symbols below it will pay out the prizes associated with them, so lucky players will get multiple payouts, although it’s equally possible to have nothing below the safe for a payout of precisely zero.

The other bonus game starts when the piggy bank stops on the middle reel, with a prize being paid out when players smash it open. Nice and simple, but potentially quite rewarding, as are the random payouts that hapless crooks Larry and Bob will pay out when they sprint across the screen.

Bust the Bankroll?

With a good bet range and the guarantee of fair payouts, Bust The Bank certainly won’t bust anyone’s budget. It’s a pretty good game all round in fact, with a theme that perhaps has been overdone a bit, but has some excellent imagery and nice animations.

People play these pokies for money however, and although Bust The Bank claims that players can win 135,000 coins, that’s for a perfect combination, and an individual will be very lucky indeed to scoop that prize.

Regular payouts are steady, if unspectacular, and apart from the free spins games, the bonuses are over in a flash. However, when a game looks this good, who’s going to let little things like that get in the way?
