Anyone who has seen the movie Bedazzled, with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurly will see where the inspiration for the beautiful Devil character that appears on the Fire N Dice pokie came from. This 3 reel, single payline game is another addition to the Microgaming range, and joins a huge collection with similar features and symbols.
Fire N Dice differs from most however by having symbols award not cash, but free rolls of dice which will in turn lead to a hell of a lot of money heading to the player’s bankrolls. There are also a few nice bonus features, which have been seen before across the Microgaming range but have proved to be very successful, so they are quite welcome here.
Apart from the obvious flames and the dice-rolling Devil herself, Fire N Dice looks like a pretty conventional pokie, with the bare minimum of symbols. There’s a nudge display panel to the right of the reels, and the elaborate game logo is set below this, while control buttons that set the amount wagered on each spin are along the bottom of the screen.
Players can stake just 0.10 on a spin, or go for the maximum bet of 10.00, which is fairly low, but should be adequate for the majority. Where most games have a payout table listing what cash rewards are on their way for each combination of symbols, this one just has the number of free dice spins that will play out.
The reels themselves are a matt black colour which looks good against all the reds that dominate the rest of the game. Spinning them sees traditional symbols of cherries, bars and 7’s, along with a small diamond that indicates no win, with the single win line running across the middle of them. Players enter the dice roll round when one type of symbol lands on all reels, across the central payline, with the cherries awarding 5 spins, bars trigger 15 of them, and the 7 symbol across the line will launch 50 dice spins.
These take place on a second screen, on 3 reels and 3 rows which have paylines, running horizontally and a further 2 lines run diagonally across the them. Now it’s time for players to start earning cash, as the spins play out automatically and win whenever 3 dice showing identical values land on a line.
Dice showing 1’s will pay 1x the bet per spin as a prize, while 2’s are worth 2x the bet. Roll 3’s for a prize equal to 5x, and 4’s have a value of 10x.
Then it gets quite interesting, with 3 dice showing 5’s paying out 25x, and 3 dice on a line with 6’s on them carries the jackpot payout of 500x, which at maximum bet is a nice reward of 5000.00. Once the dice game is over, players are returned to the reels, but even in the base game, there are some extra treats to be had.
Nudges and holds are awarded randomly, and give players the opportunity to make up winning combinations by moving a reel position or holding reels in place to try and create winning combinations, while the Shifta and Let ‘em Spin features are simply guaranteed wins, although again, all these do here is line up symbols to trigger the dice round.
This is a good-looking pokie with some interesting features. As long as players realise how it works, with the basic part of the game only working to trigger a bonus round and not paying out directly, it’s a good concept to play as well.
Animations are pretty much what’s expected from Microgaming 3-reel pokies, so they are smooth and reliable, but there isn’t anything particularly flashy about them. Functional rather than fancy, but perfectly acceptable, as the focus is really on spinning up lines of identical symbols for that rewarding dice game.
