I will be the first one to tell you that I don’t understand the whole vampire craze that the world went through a few years ago. Old school vampires may have been pretty cool (think Bela Lugosi), but these modern day bloodsuckers really don’t appeal to me in the least.
Hence, I didn’t understand all of the hype behind Immortal Romance by gaming developer Microgaming. The game is heavily influenced by the feminine vampire film “Twilight”, and really looks quite dark and muddled on a first impression. However, after further review, I can say that I am quite happy to have gotten the chance to play this game, as it is actually a solid pokie that features deep gameplay and the ability to score some massive wins.
As I mentioned above, the Immortal Romance pokie has a dark and somewhat muddled look to it when you first start playing it. Fortunately, this effect seems to go away as you play the pokie more, and you begin to see the amount of detail and vibrancy that is actually present in the game.
Pokie symbols carry a hand drawn, 2D look that is quite flat but seems to really work for the game. While main characters in the game’s love triangle are present in the reels, we also get to see classic pokie symbols such as the 9, 10, J, Q, K, A. While I feel these symbols are becoming rudimentary in the pokie world, they at least look like they somewhat belong here, and I can’t fault Microgaming for their inclusion.
Animations are quite nice in the game, with winning reel combinations flashing and popping out a bit. The game’s characters are also beautifully animated, giving players the opportunity to grow a small attachment to their fates as the game wears on.
I really wasn’t looking forward to playing Immortal Romance at first, but changed my tune when I started seeing how the gameplay unfolds. The pokie is a 243 ways to win, 5-reel video pokie that offers up plenty of small wins mixed with the occasional big haul.
I myself hit a dry spell only once in my hour of testing, and came out ahead due to the Sticky and Random Wilds that appear every once in a while. A Free Spin bonus round is also present, wherein the player selects one of the four game characters in the game to determine how many spins are awarded.
As seems to be my luck, I never really hit it big during the Free Spins round, but I did enjoy seeing the round pop up twice during my session.
As a guy, it is kind of odd for me to admit that I actually liked playing this “chick flick” vampire pokie, but I really had a lot of fun playing Immortal Romance. While I still don’t like vampires, I do like money, and racking up a good size bankroll in this game really made me quite fond of Immortal Romance.
You should definitely check this game out if you like vampires or Random Wilds, as this game is full of both. The bottom line is that this is a quality pokie that you should try the next time you visit a Microgaming powered casino.
Overall: A-
